We were lucky enough to get our hands on the new Mac Studio & Studio Display. Our National Engineering Manager and long time Apple fanboy, Jason Griffiths takes you through the fantastic opportunities that the Mac Studio with an M1 Max can give you.
The Mac Studio comes with either a M1 Max with a 10 core CPU and a 24 core GPU or for those high end workloads, the M1 Ultra with a 20 core CPU and 48 GPU cores.
On the front, it has two USB-c ports, that get upgraded to thunderbolt if you purchase the M1 Ultra model, as well as a SDXC card slot for downloading camera footage or preparing assets for a 3D print run.
On the back is where most of the action happens. You have an 3.5mm audio jack, a HDMI port, a couple of USB-A ports and 4 Thunderbolt 4 ports. Last of all you get the state of the art MultiGig ethernet port allowing for the fastest possible connection to the network.
With the built-in media engine, encoding and decoding in programs like Final Cut Pro and DaVinci Resolve are lightning fast. From our testing it was just a seamless experience.
Finally the Studio Display, this is really nice premium display. The audio is fantastic, it is deep and full with good bass and is a real feat of engineering to fit it in to such a small footprint. The 5K panel scales beautifully and the single cable connection is a very clean experience.
